Depending upon the make & model of phone, some modern phones allow for using 2 esims at the same time. My iPhones have had that ability since the 13 models, 3 years ago. I have been using dual esims since then. One esim is assigned as a data line, the other for voice. A short term roaming esim could be installed for the data function while maintaining the current voice line esim for calls & texting.
esims for all countries can be installed to the iPhone as active/inactive and switched as the trip progresses rather than using physical sims
