Got rebooked on redeye from LIH to mainland to an afternoon flight the next day due to a delta delay on the redeye. Took a Hawaiian flight to HNL to connect to Delta. All on the same ticket booked by phone agent. Wife and I charged $115 for bags at Hawaiian check in counter.. Never mentioned when switched flights. Emailed Delta and got a phone call from a friendly agent that said that is policy now. If you have status on Delta and first flight is on Hawaiian you pay for bags. Gave me a Delta gift card to offset what I paid as a courtesy but going forward will need to pay. My main complaint is this is not evident when making booking
Recipet would've shown this. Policy for tickets with an origin/destination in US is policy of marketing carrier of first carrier applies. However this is just the basic non-elite, no credit card holder policy. Elite/credit card based waivers are per policy of airline checkin with.
This isn't "new" but people get caught off guard all the time.
