I suppose going to the main mall in a selection of towns and walking around the neighborhoods and seeing the community services is the simplest but perhaps not the most rewarding ?
I’ve seen some private tours offering visits to HDB estates but they seem to be rather expensive !
basically the heartland is where Singaporeans stay. these estates are usually self sufficient, so you can find amenities ranging from schools, shops, markets, hawker centers, sports/community facilities, shopping malls, etc. there isnt really much to see, but i guess if you want to get a feel of the environment Singaporeans live in. nonetheless, i would recommend going to wet markets and hawker centers to look for interesting local eats. you can consider visiting tiong bahru market area. it has a wet market and the hawker center on level 2 has quite a lot of good food. the area around the market also has a nostalgic heritage charm, as it is one of the oldest public housing estate.
