I typically visit 4 islands 2x annually on business, economics have justified nonstops from SAN (with the exception of Kauai), goes a long way toward earning MVPG (or better). Should this become a pattern, I will start combining trips, not worry about earning MP status, fall back on my LT AA PLT / OW Sapphire status for seats, checked baggage, BofA Companion Pass, etc.
