AMEX also told me the system issue had impacted a lot of pple and many called in to complain. so hopefully this thread is helping lurkers make the complaint.
but the potential issue w/ my situation is the transaction date of 12/31...i will monitor my case and get back. they also told me its 12 week wait. argh.
I had called them a couple of weeks ago. The guy I spoke to didn't know about the glitch and thought I must have picked "Pay at hotel" (which is, after all, how it appeared to him), but he escalated it and said someone would get back to me within a few weeks. It was a shorter wait than I expected.
The combination of trying to use last year's credit and not calling until well into the new year made me think I had a less-than-even chance at resolution, so I'm pleased. Hopefully your additional challenges of a last-day-of-year booking and no hotel charge mean it's merely a steeper uphill battle, but still a resolution, for you. Good luck!
