Question about Monjusou Shorotei - I couldn't find a full-fledged review from you about this property (apologies if I've missed it), but I'd like to hear your thoughts on the property relative to the others you've listed above. Also, curious if you happen to have clarification on whether the property's in-room onsens are "gensen kakenagashi" (multiple Google reviews state otherwise, but the pictures for the Kumoi room certainly seem like onsen), or if you have any specific room recommendations.
My posts focus on stays from 2020 onwards, as anything before that would be too outdated to give a definitive view of what the experience would be like. In the case of Monjusou Shorotei, my last stay was in 2011, so my experience is definitely not current. We were, however, contemplating a visit a few years ago (we had to cancel at the last minute), and called them up to clarify the onsen situation. Basically, ONLY the Daiyokujo (public bath) has gensen (100% pure from the source) onsen, and even then, it's not 100% kakenagashi (free-flowing and never recirculated.) No guest rooms have onsen, from what they explained to me.
