I don’t completely disagree but you can get value out of them. For example, did JNB for two of us last year in J for 190,000 avios and £950 in taxes. Thats only 10,000 more than it would have been with a companion voucher. Granted that value only came about because it was off peak.

I can't say for sure as an agent might help, but it is my understanding that it's only possible to do this when date is out of range. You could cancel and we rebook I guess but you risk losing the outbound availability.
