And this is the main problem that Airnz faces, even beyond the LHR slots. The reality is that there isn't many airports right now that are viable as AKL-LON transit points given plane range and world geopolitics. It's possible in the near future that Asian continental hubs with overflights of Ukraine and Russia might come back into play, and this might well be before the engine situation sorts itself, but until then, it's going to have to be somewhere on or near the western seaboard of North America. While I am personally biased in favor of YVR, LAX makes way more sense in terms of the sheer market available. For giggles I just looked at the great circle route AKL-LON direct - approx 18,355km with an overflight of western Siberia and a substantial part of the sector where all the viable ETOPS diversions will be in Russia. I am assuming there is nothing out there plane wise on the horizon that will be viable for this, even with a lighter all J / PE cabin?
