Air travel in Japan just wasn't smooth last week at all.
The day before OP flew was a national holiday and all flights out of most airports were oversold from what I could tell.
ANA at CTS was a disaster too with hour+ long waits to check bags in the premium / F line, tons of flight delays, etc.
