I've been on a few over the years, last one in New Zealand. Can't say I found them to be a problem even with cabin bags and the wife in tow. Pretty sure it was a Finnair ATR 72 I once checked in my bike as well.
Have also done Tauranga to Christchurch on ANZ Dash8 - blocked at 2 hours. Not unpleasant really, Cabin width not too dissimilar to an E-jet or 220 or that's how it felt. I would be happy with more ATRs ex LGW if it meant BA building the network (MAN anyone?). We should remember that when they bought the original incarnation of CityFlyer Express they inherited a mature mini network of ATRs and they were a few generations older.
