Where does your presumption come from?
My limited experience: Iberostar Selection Andalucia Playa, 8-night stay, it was absolutely great, and I got all the perks of my Diamond (Ambassador) recognition. Admittedly, they may not be well versed into the tids & bits of IHG 1R, however upon seeng my status in the system, the lady excused herself, went aside, took out a big card from under the reception, went through what apparently was the benefits guide, came back and informed me of my of my benefits as I had expected. So, I was allowed to check in early and check out late (both times more than several hours against the official deadline), I received an upgrade of a few categories, there was also a symbolic local-influenced welcome gift in the room upon arrival. Otherwise, the property does not have a lounge and the breakfast choice was not relevant as this is an all-inclusive property. To put things into perspective, the hotel's team went above and beyond what I was due and expected - which is more than the majority of stingy ICs, in which I have stayed, which opted to rather stick exactly to the letter of the T&Cs and not a bit further.
