As far as I have noticed / can tell, the longest 789 flights like SFO-SIN and EWR-JNB do not block any J seats for crew rest. Which flights do use a J seat?
I’ve flown EWR/JNB, EWR/CPT, EWR/DEL dozens of times each.

J seat is blocked, I assure you. It has to be available to legally fly that segment.

Thing is about those flights, most of us never use the seat because both legs are long, overnight flights. We’re all pretty tired and are able sleep well in the bunks on our time zone.

EWR/NRT is a tough one to sleep on for us because it leaves in the morning. Not really tired at 1030am so we’re more likely to use the J seat on that flight than the others I listed above.

I cannot speak of the flights from SFO and how those are augmented. Not based there and am
just unfamiliar with that flying.
