The changes also mean Iberia are actually going to award EP for cabin upgrades for the first time. Under the current system you always get EPs for original booked class, but now you can earn EP on what you paid for your upgrade… and presumably that includes cash upgrades on award tickets.

Just went back and looked up my 2022/23 EP year – I earned 2765 old EPs, including 265 from 2x EP promos. This was the last EP year I partially did without the Iberia Icon and also the first EP year I hit Oro.
Under the new system, I'd earn 6674 (including Avios 10:1 conversions from the IB Plus Store and the Icon, which I had in February and March 2023). If I apply 2x to the base EPs for the four flights for which I got 2xEP originally, I'd be up to 7462 new EPs.
Just quickly did a calculation for 2023/24 too, where I earned 2915 old EPs (including 20 EPs on a flight I never boarded!) and would've earned 8658 EPs under the new system. I think the new system is a wash for me for retaining Oro, which I should do safely.
