A small update to my issue, which is really being dragged out. I emailed AA again about a week ago and haven't heard back. It seems like their response window is roughly 5-7 business days per email. It's glacial. Meanwhile, Alaska fully restored my account and all my miles four days ago. So at least that chapter is now closed. I will say this: it's a stark difference in both treatment and handling of the problem between both airlines.
