JAL should be able to check the bags through so they just need to be picked up at ORD baggage claim and taken to the AA bag transfer desk to be dropped off again. If they’re tagged through there won’t be a fee.

I tried adding FUK-HND Y to TYO-ORD PY booking and saw that it went from 50k miles to 55k while the total distance is under 7k miles, any idea why this might be the case?
