Would I need to leave the secure area to pick up the luggage, then go through security again after checking the luggage back in? That's what I'm really hoping I *don't* need to do. If it's just a matter of picking up my luggage while still in the secure area, clearing immigration and customs with it, then dropping it off for my connecting domestic flight, all without ever leaving the secure area, then I think that's a whole lot less troublesome, so I'll be relieved if that's the case.
I flew SEA-YYC-YYZ last year with the last segment on Porter. The Alaska agent at Seatac stated my bags would be checked all the way through to YYZ. However, I waited in YYC just to make sure my bag did not pop out on the baggage carousel. My bags eventually did drop on the baggage carousel. I had to leave the secure area, recheck my bag and clear security again. I am not sure if YVR has a different system rechecking bags.
