Here's an edited prompt I used in ChatGPT along with its response - unsure if it's better or worse than what you were looking for. One advantage to ChatGPT is that you can continue to refine the answer and it'll keep plugging away.

I've also learned that "please" and "thank you" actually give you better results! And the use of "Do NOT" with NOT in all caps appears to help it along as well. Some have recommended "Do NOT under any circumstances..."

Prompt: Please find me the least expensive round-trip business class ticket between YVR and HKT with the following criteria: --travel duration between 2.5 to 4 weeks --dates of travel must be between March 1st and April 20th 2025 or between November 15th and December 20th 2025 --Do NOT show options for Air India or Philippine Airlines --Do NOT include options from consolidators and travel agents but rather book directly through the airline --maximum two stopovers, preferably only one stopover --Do NOT show stopovers greater than 4 hours

Response: Based on your specified criteria for a round-trip business class ticket between Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and Phuket International Airport (HKT), here are some options:

1. Korean Air
  • Travel Dates: April 14, 2025 – May 12, 2025
  • Duration: Approximately 4 weeks
  • Stops: Typically one stop in Seoul (ICN)
  • Layover Duration: Varies; please verify specific flights to ensure layovers are under 4 hours
  • Fare: Starting from CAD 5,332 in Prestige (Business) Class
  • Booking: Directly through Korean Air's official website citeturn0search12
2. Air Canada
  • Travel Dates: Various dates within your specified range
  • Duration: Between 2.5 to 4 weeks
  • Stops: Typically one stop; destinations may vary
  • Layover Duration: Varies; ensure layovers are under 4 hours
  • Fare: Prices start at $808 for round trips; business class fares will be higher
  • Booking: Directly through Air Canada's official website citeturn0search0
3. Cathay Pacific
  • Travel Dates: Various dates within your specified range
  • Duration: Between 2.5 to 4 weeks
  • Stops: Typically one stop in Hong Kong (HKG)
  • Layover Duration: Varies; ensure layovers are under 4 hours
  • Fare: Prices start at $1,052 for round trips; business class fares will be higher
  • Booking: Directly through Cathay Pacific's official website citeturn0search0
Additional Considerations:
  • Booking in Advance: To secure the best fares and meet your specific criteria, it's advisable to book well in advance.
  • Layover Verification: When selecting flights, carefully check the layover durations to ensure they do not exceed 4 hours.
  • Airline Preferences: As per your request, options from Air India and Philippine Airlines have been excluded.
Please note that flight availability and prices are subject to change. It's recommended to verify the current details directly with the airlines before making a booking.
Thanks, I believe what you are doing is called "prompt engineering"

Really I want it to just find me the single best (cheapest) fare meeting the criteria mentioned above.

After more reading and experimenting with the AI, I realize the current chatbots won't do the job. They are trained on large volumes of text. They are not trained how to do airline fare searches.
