Almost a year later, and the same situation for me. Booked an AV flight thru GOL, and I can't select seats. I've even tried the "Hire Services" link on GOL. On hold now with Avianca (25 minutes) to see if I'm able to even PAY for seats in advance. If not, gonna cancel this (thank god I bought the refundable "MAX" fare).
