We visited Saudi in November, flying in and out of Jeddah. The high point - and it was a very high point - was our visit to Hegra/Al Ula. I highly recommend it. I had no idea I would find something so fascinating there. The tombs in the desert, over 100 of them, were built by the Nabateans who also built Petra. The museum that is entirely encased in mirrors is there. It is stunning, vanishing into the desert. We had a fantastic stay at the Banyan Tree. Expensive? Yes, but for us, worth it.

We rented a car and booked tours for specific places such as Hegra. We were able to easily drive to Ellephant Rock.

We liked the area so much we hope to return.
