For many years, TW flew a 747-200 BOS<>JFK. It was a positioning flight -- came in from TLV to CDG to BOS, then from JFK to SFO. For lowly "gold" members of TW, upgrades from Y->C->F were nearly guaranteed on the BOS<>JFK segments -- fares were $29 for Y with a seat assignment in F.
In parallel with the BOS-JFK-SFO on the 747-200, TW flew an L-1011 PHL-JFK-LAX in the same time slots, so one could fly from BOS or PHL and access either SFO or LAX with a stay-on-board or transfer at JFK.
AA flew the DC-10 LGA<>ROC to accommodate the Kodak business travelers.
CO's BOS<>DEN service wsa on an A300 with two rows of 2-2-2 in F. Roast beef carved in the aisle during dinner service.
UA's BOS<>IAD service on the DC-10 had a full hot breakfast southbound in F in the morning; the 5pm northbound had steak or chicken, with ice cream dessert. But now those segments are "too short for any meal service."
