The problem with PriorityPass is that the majority of the lounges, and certainly of those worth visiting, have (artificial) capacity constraints. If you just turn up, they put you in a queue and you maybe get into the lounge an hour later, all whilst watching people who paid full whack or are entering as airline contract passengers walk straight in. You can only get around this if you cough up a pre-booking fee.
Indeed - you have to include the pre-booking fee (usually ~£6 p/p) in the cost of entry. That obviously substantially increases the cost if you are a frequent flyer at all.
