Lounge Review: PVG T2 No.77 China Eastern Plaza Premium Lounge
Index to Genius1 Trip Reports
Shanghai Pudong International Airport’s Terminal 2 opened in 2008 and offers a multitude of lounges. For oneworld passengers, the Cathay Pacific lounge should be your go-to base, but its opening hours of 06:00-19:00 means this isn’t an option for QR871 departing at 23:45. Instead, Qatar Airways have contracted to use the No.77 lounge, located close to Gate D77 and operated by China Eastern (PVG’s home based SkyTeam airline), with an affiliation with Plaza Premium. At the time of writing this review, the QR and oneworld websites didn’t list Qatar Airways as amongst its eligible airlines, so it pays to check in advance which lounge is available to you.
The lounge follows Plaza Premium’s typical interior design very loosely, although it’s certainly more at the more basic end of the spectrum. Sitting one level above the gates, the lounge is open to the rest of the terminal (so does suffer from some background noise) and features expansive views over the apron.
From reception, the lounge fans out both left and right, although during my visit at the end of November 2023, much of the right-hand portion was closed presumably due to lack of demand. The section to the right that was open included some high-top seating (with plentiful power sockets) and 12 armchairs clustered in groups of 4, each with access to a shared side table with integrated power.
Straight ahead from reception is another high-top work table, beyond which the lounge is split into three distinct sections by low slatted partitions; café seating, a large section of armchair seating (in groups of 4 and 6, all with shared side tables with integrated power) and finally a dining area with self-serve bar, buffet and open kitchen. I didn’t participate in the dining offering, but the selection looked typical of a Plaza Premium lounge; that is to say slightly above the level you’d normally expect in a third party lounge, which given the China Eastern branding, makes sense.
One of the dining tables at the far end of the lounge had been roped off with a display of pseudo-LEGO items for purchase, seemingly bespoke to China Eastern.
To the left of the armchair seating section are four recessed nooks with banquette seating for roughly 8 people each – these certainly seemed to be the most popular locations for passengers to relax.
Washrooms and showers are located on the left just prior to the open kitchen.
The No.77 lounge at PVG T2 is a perfectly acceptable pitstop before a flight, but nothing more.
