I agree with your path — walk outside on the arrivals level, then reenter security at T7 — but I’d probably be canceling my UA flight and buying something from AC or WS.
There are no better alternatives even on other airlines, as there are no nonstop between LAX and YEG.
Yes, you would get there 8 hrs later, but the flight from LA is 4 hrs after the 7am flight. AC also has a similar departure time (5 mins early).
Maybe can switch to an itinerary via YVR with a shorter connection time to YEG.
WS and Flair schedules are worse.
All that said, no downside in trying. Assuming on time arrival into LAX, and knowing the route, the flight to DEN is doable.
