Hotel review

I stayed in this hotel a few days ago, thanks to the excellent rates which in this period often drop below 150 euros. However, I see that so far no one has published a complete review, so I'll do it.

LOCATION

The hotel is located in the district of Rome called EUR (acronym for Esposizione Universale di Roma - Universal Exhibition of Rome) created to host what should have been the 1942 Expo, which was never held due to the war. Currently the area hosts government offices and headquarters of large companies and banks. There are several monumental buildings that are interesting from a tourist point of view and some museums, as well as several parks and green areas.

Cloud on the left and Hilton on the right. Executive corner room just below the Hilton sign

The hotel, an excellent 4 star which due to its characteristics is 80% aimed at a business or conference clientele, is located next to the conference center called Nuvola (Cloud) and, as already reported in other previous posts, is located about 200 meters from the EUR Fermi stop on line B of the metro. In front of the hotel there is a bus stop, where among others the bus 31 also stops, which allows you to reach the Vatican Museums area (Cipro metro stop) in about 35 minutes (more or less the same time it would take by metro, but with a more panoramic route and without the hassle of changing metro lines at Termini station). Within a 5 minute walk from the hotel there are stops of at least 20 other bus lines, which allow, with a little practice and the help of Google Maps, to reach almost any area of Rome.

BOOKING & CHECK-IN

I booked a basic King Room and a week before my stay on the Hilton App I noticed the upgrade to a King Corner Room and hours later a further upgrade to a King Corner Executive Room.

The digital key is offered, but as in all Italian hotels it is always necessary to show up at check-in to register the ID, so I did not benefit from this possibility. Digital check-in offered no choice of rooms, apart the room assigned to me, and here too I decided not to use the option.

The entrance and reception are located in the center of the very modern building of approximately 16 floors, with the hall extending in height to all floors. The rooms are located on both sides of the building (approximately 24 rooms per floor) while the elevators, six in total (three on each side) and all made of glass, overlook the hall area.

ROOM

At the entrance to the room the usual Diamond Gift with fruit and sweets and the welcome letter with the GM's business card.

Corner room on the upper floors which due to its large dimensions could also be classified as a junior suite. Very large bathroom with tub and shower. As soon as you enter the room the curtains open automatically and the lights turn on, but you need to do some practice to get used to the complicated system of switches and controls and this could be unpleasant.

The air conditioning was very efficient and quiet.

BREAKFAST

Of excellent quality, in the restaurant on the ground floor, with a wide selection of both sweet and savory dishes. The pastry products are not the usual standard frozen products found in most European Hiltons, but real pastry products, as well as cakes. While I was having breakfast a waitress was wandering around the tables offering small plates with freshly prepared French toast. Fresh orange juice and freshly prepared fruit centrifuges. Coffee and cappuccinos prepared by the barista are also available (unfortunately with a pod machine, but probably only Italians would notice the difference in quality).

Upon my arrival, just before 8.30, there was a large crowd of businessmen, but without waiting and with ample availability of tables. After 9, the restaurant was practically deserted with the only presence of tourists.

EXECUTIVE LOUNGE

It is located on the ground floor, on the left of the hall. Not the best lounge in the Hilton group, but still tastefully decorated. Happy Hour from 6pm to 8pm with a hot dish (fish with vegetables during my stay), a selection of sandwiches, cheeses and a dessert. During my stay lounge never crowded.

Spirits selection

The lounge attendant prepares various cocktails (with the selection of spirits available) and serves them at the tables.

INCONVENIENCES

As already reported in previous posts, you need to familiarize yourself with the complicated system of light switches, and this can be annoying.

Being a hotel dedicated almost exclusively to business customers, on working days between 8 and 9 it becomes complicated to use the lifts. Of the 6 present, one was off duty and to go down for breakfast I had to wait almost 5 minutes for the elevator to arrive, which once arrived, even though it was full and no one could get in anymore, it then stopped at each of the 15 floors, taking another 5 minutes to go down.

CONCLUSIONS

I was there for work reasons and I particularly enjoyed my stay, and I would not hesitate to return as a tourist. Traveling by public transport is not a problem and after a day in the city you can appreciate the various restaurants in the area (certainly cheaper than the city centre) and the tranquility of the neighbourhood.

In case of a multi-day stay in Rome, I suggest trying this hotel at least once, prices permitting.
