Princess Sky Lounge, SXM / St. Maarten

I had the opportunity to visit the new lounge in SXM which opened last July. SXM has come a long way in the last year in their hurricane recovery. Both the arrival and departure areas are now open with biometric e-gates in both directions. No more standing in line outdoors in the heat.

Princess Sky Lounge is a SkyTeam lounge but also accepts paid entry and Priority Pass. We were on the United 14:45 departure, which is a peak time for the airport and the lounge. BTW I am primarily an AA customer but AA's operation out of SXM is a complete mess and connection times are lousy so we take the UA nonstop. The lounge was still accepting Priority Pass despite being overcrowded. I'm not sure how I feel about that. Glad we weren't denied entry, but there were not two seats together anywhere in the two-story lounge. I spotted one empty armchair that had someone's suitcase on it but otherwise it was standing room only. A group of six was sharing four chairs and some people were eating standing up. One of the servers actually said to us "you were a little late if you wanted to get a seat." We stalked some seats at the upstairs bar and jumped on them when a family of four left.

The good news is the food was great and the bartenders were great. You get two drink chits on entry for alcoholic beverages. The buffet had a beef stew, a chicken stew, fried potatoes, and a pasta dish. There was also a salad bar and some delicious meat patties (ground beef en croute, empanada-shaped). Some kind of soup was on offer but it looked pretty thin. Everything I tried was delicious. It was more delicious once I finally got to sit down... The only odd thing is that none of the food was labeled. You just had to open the steam tray and guess by appearance.

I would certainly not pay $60 to access this lounge but if you have Priority Pass or class-based access it's worth it to avoid the chaos and noise of the B gates departure area and also to get a bite to eat.

Edit to add: The bathrooms in this lounge are quite limited given how small it is. There was consistently a line for both the Men's and the Women's. I used the one out in the terminal but was told the Women's only had two stalls. Also, this lounge does not appear on the Priority Pass website (that site is awful BTW), and the app gives an incorrect location. It is actually across from the A gates near the restaurants.
