Gamification is literally what the most sophisticated loyalty programmes are doing on purpose these days to drive engagement. The fact Colm doesn’t get this should be deeply worrying to those who have been saying there’s some sort of genius master plan at work here.
This is
really entertaining to me as I'm currently in the process of designing a loyalty programme for a different mode of transport* but still in the UK - and gamification is one of the main things that I'm currently looking at in order to drive spend towards what we're releasing vs anyone else. Air travel has lots of options, as do all other modes of transport, and there's in theory a limit of how much anyone will spend - how on earth else do you drive the spend towards you and not others? Bonkers.
* those who know what I do for a living will know which!
