I tried doing some basic maths, which didn't really help much. The bonus points on two CE returns gets me 9.34% of the way to Silver. I will then be x or y amount on top of that closer to Silver when my eligible spend is calculated.
Previously, I would've been 26.67% or 53.34% depending on the routing. In cash terms, the amount of outlay is still going to be significantly more to get to the same position.
It does nothing to remove the main barrier to me from bothering with status, which is my own travel patterns - pretty much all my travel is with family. The amount of spend needed to secure Silver therefore remains out of reach. All the bonus TPs do is mitigate the deduction of taxes from eligible spend.
The bonus TPs on a BAH also do very little to counteract the main issue - the splitting on the TPs across all travellers.
