Yes, you're right. Just checked and the French version (in the same email) is clearer: 'En signe de reconnaissance pour votre temps et votre précieuse contribution, nous offrons aux participants une compensation de 270 €.'
This study is about improving their communication, and sure enough they have a lot of work to do. But the one thing I wish they would fix first is their IT systems followed by their corporate level customer service.
