BA Anomaly - are nTP going to be based on fare or cash paid?
Just comparing relative costs of a weekend break London (Gatwick) to Dubrovnik
Redemption in economy best cost is £272, based on 11,600av + £180 for two
Paid is £315 with £64 off with 9,680 Avios but earns 1260 Avios each so nett 7,160av
Paid is £277 with £102 off with 19,040 Avios but earns 1260 Avios each so nett 16,520av
So redemption is the best value especially given the fare includes checked in luggage. But for the paid option in all cases: -
Fare £127.00
Carrier imposed charge £13.00
So under the new rules either option should attract £140 of nTP spend each even though the underlying spend is less (do Avios pay fare, YQ or taxes?). If credited to AA would the value be £140 or the lower amount? Why no Avios for YQ when it's eligible spend for nTP?
Have BA actually considered that effectively they have moved to a quasi AY system where Avios can be used to earn nTP credit? I know it's not really a practical value as the booking in question would max give £377.14 off with 94,280 Avios - 377 nTP
(I value 1p per avios)
