Yeah that's where I settled - we got a nice room at a great hotel at the right price, plus some miles, and it'll be fine. I just had to berate myself to try to remember not to do it that way again.
I really felt like a bonehead.

I had no trouble receiving Explorist benefits at the Thompson Madrid this past November for a prepaid reservation which was booked through AAdvantage Hotels. The simply added my World of Hyatt number when I checked in.
OK, that's interesting. And my recollection before booking it was that this is often the case - again, you won't earn credit for the stay toward future status, but it seemed from memory that you could still apply your status for the perks while staying. I'll rest easier and maybe contact the hotel ahead of time to see about adding my WoH number.
