Digging up an old thread I started as I've just down done a stay where I redeedmed about 90% of the gross cost with Reward Points. I did not obtain any Reward/Status Points, but the posts above say €10 net spend is the minimum to earn points.
Gross cost = £261.78 and UK VAT is 20%. Therefore, net cost = gross cost / (1 + VAT) = £261.78 / (1 + 0.2) = £218.15.
Redeemed 14,000 Reward Points which were worth €280 = £232.16 at the time of booking/payment.
Therefore, the money out of my pocket was: gross spend = £261.78 - £232.16 = £29.62.
Which is a net spend = gross spend / (1 + VAT) = £29.62 / (1 + 0.2) = £24.68. Based on the currency conversion using €280 / £232.16 = 1.2061 €/£ is a net spend = €29.77. Shouldn't I earn Reward/Status Points on €29.77?
I know these are very very small amounts and so the Points have no value, but I am just wanting to fully understand the process.
Hope the maths is clear. Thanks
