I fly CDG-LHR on BA fairly frequently and fair to say bag drop in my experience has not been possible until 2 hours prior to departure (have to wait on two occasions recently until the 2 hour prior mark before being permitted to check in my bag). Touch wood though, haven't really experienced much of a weight at passport control.
