There has to be 1 flight attendant for every 50 passengers. The only time a flight attendant is required at an exit is if the slide requires manual activation. Delta has no aircraft in their fleet that require manual slide activation. The A330 can legally be dispatched with 6 flight attendants. Most of Delta’s smaller narrow bodies are dispatched with 3 flight attendants.
The extra flight attendants would be added based on the highest load leg. If the aircraft booked up after that on the return they would simply go short but the flight attendants would get min staffing pay for the flight.
