Say what now? 5 day holds? I did not know such a thing exists. All my holds for years now, both business and leisure have always been for 24hours

AA's Hold Policy

Need more time to decide?

You can put your trip on hold and come back later to finish booking.

24-hour hold

On select American Airlines flights, you can hold your trip up to 24 hours for free if you book 7 or more days before departure.

Here’s how:

  • Choose your flights and select 'Hold your trip' on the 'Review and pay' page
  • Refer to your confirmation email or go to 'Your trips' to pay for your trip
  • Your trip will automatically cancel after 24 hours if you don’t finish booking
I assume all airlines have similar. Of course some require you to pay for their holds.
