Hey there, was the paid transit hotel option around USD $100? If I’m ever in this situation next time, paid transit is probably the most economical option, but I think I would only be interested if given the Oryx Garden.

I ended up getting a nap room at Al Safwa which actually works quite well, except it’s 6 hours max. Extending for another 6 hours would cost QAR 450 / ~USD 125 which I’m actually considering doing since my layover is 12 hours long but I really would only need the room for maybe 10 hours. I’m in hour 2 of the free 6 hours so I have time to decide… (arrived at 1PM and there was plenty of availability for reference).

I also contemplated getting a meal first and then checking back around 3pm to maximize the 6 hours but then decided not to roll the dice, plus it was nice to get a shower in first. I suppose I could have showered in the spa facilities, eaten and then gotten the nap room but my brain wasn’t braining and I didn’t want to deal with the unknown.

I suppose the nice thing about the nap rooms is I can just come in and out and get a snack or a meal. There would be a bit more planning with the transit hotel.

I shall return after I’ve completed my trip to provide a more cohesive assessment of what I would have done, hindsight 20/20

Update: I ended up paying to extend another 6 hours. The biggest issues for me were the constant door slamming and no windows (although not sure if the Oryx/Oryx Garden rooms would have windows either). Bed was meh. But given my lack of planning, this worked well for what I needed and I appreciated the convenience.
