I can’t imagine your company would want you squandering extra money on something like this.

Furthermore: (a) the agent was almost certainly making that up; (b) of the two nonstop flights on Feb. 9, neither has more than four seats remaining in J inventory; (c) the list can change as people buy tickets — any 1K that buys a PE fare right now would move right ahead of you; and (d) if I had to guess, I’d say that nobody on the upgrade list for either flight clears.

If you’re still interested in goosing UA’s bottom line, the one-way price appears to be a whopping $3,708. However, that assumes that your company has purchased a one-way ticket; if you have a round-trip ticket, you’ll have to refare the return too. As for the error message, I’m not sure, but try changing the cabin selection to Business and back, or just try on the app instead, which worked on the first try for me.
