I have a second profile in my AS account with my AA number, for revenue tickets (since I no longer have AS status). That doesn’t populate for award flights, but it also doesn’t populate an AS number.

It’s perhaps a niche case, but as someone with lots of AS and AA miles and only AA status at the moment it adds another dimension to choosing how I book award flights now. If it is a flight where status doesn’t matter (partner J without seat selection fees), maybe booking via AS is great (as I get some EQM). But if I have to pay for BA J seats or AS PC seats, maybe booking an award on AA is better.
