The Asian crew bases basically work in a way, where they fly to Tokyo, does some weeks of flying various routes to and from Tokyo, and then return to their home base for a break, and then resume flying again.
So they could be on LAX flights, but would return to their ultimate home base working on the JAL network, not flying on other carriers.
