AF/KL from N. America to SE Asia via Europe will be a very long route combining two longhaul flights in each direction, hence give you a lot of XP. But if you are flying this way, you have options with many other airlines, some are even cheaper than C$6k.
you are correct in fact if you want to do it shorter North America too southeast Asia they might as well look at SkyTeam Partners of AF/KL that fly transPacific. Skyteam Alliance AF/KL partner like KE/CI/MU/MF do compete against PR to MNL. In the case of PR vs KE it's ICN-MNL/CEB
