Sounds like it works for AA also (via AA chat), but AS still won't allow it on just their own flights.
Agree that now with AS EQM earning, there's now some benefit with leaving AS FFN on the reservation. Have to weigh against non-AS status-based benefits such as lounge access (e.g. F lounge access for OWEs) or partner seat selection (BA J seat selection, JL preferred J seats, for example).
