Suggestions for replacing the Rimowa Cabin Plus
Hi folks -
Over the years, I've transitioned from Tumi to Briggs & Riley and finally to Rimowa. I picked up a poly Cabin Plus a while back, and it’s traveled with me for at least 800k miles. I chose it specifically because it’s slightly larger than the standard "legal" carry-on size. It’s not taller; it’s just a little wider. It still fits in the overhead compartment because its length from wheels to top is legal, but it's an inch or two wider. It won't flip up on its side like some of the new overheads allow.
I also got a Cabin Essentials, which is essentially the same bag but not the "wide" version. Everyone here scared me into thinking the thicker one would get frequently stopped at the gate. I've taken literally hundreds of flights with a few dozen airlines all over the world, and I’ve never encountered that box at the gate that says, "you must fit inside this." Not yet, anyway.
I travel for weeks at a time, and that slightly wider size makes a world of difference. It seems Rimowa doesn’t make the Cabin Plus anymore. Is there another model they offer in that same Plus size? I’m not set on just Rimowa; are there other brands that also make a larger carry-on size?
