As cxwaterboy says, you can call and they'll unlock, sometimes with the stipulation about it being a bassinet. Mrs. QRC and I have a strong preference for 2D/K together, but if you're not a CX regular I can see the allure of both pax having a window. And if you want that then the A side is indeed best since you're in your own little section over there.
Just adding my experience. I have basic green status. I called for the 4th time and spoke with a supervisor, they would not open up the restricted seats. I am 9 months out or so until the flight.
