What 'they' lose is answered in the post immediately above yours but, I will elaborate on one aspect. For me, it's about when we travel as a family on holiday. The First Wing has its critics, but the check-in experience is vastly superior and try finding 3 or 4 seats together in The Galleries North or South during school holidays.
In the context of dumping BA and switching to Star/Sky Team, what will these people get? Fast track that they get with BA Silver? I do sympathize with losing First Wing access, but what is the alternative? Will people “punish” BA by ditching it or will they punish themselves?
