MQDs and RDMs are calculated differently. Both are equal to BIS miles X a multiplier, but the multiplier is different for each depending on the fare class. We bought PE, so we had a 0.20 MQD multiplier and a 1.25 RDM multiplier.

Concept is no different from the way they calculate RDM/MQD on other partners. They just happen to be more generous with the Tier 1 JV partners vs. secondary partners. Also, SAS flights do not earn any Medallion bonus miles (unlike JV partner flights). In looking at DL footnotes, I suspect they may not actually look at fare basis codes to distinguish "Light" fares and only look for the "O" booking class which is only offered on intra-Europe fares.
