Uncertain if it fits your exact situation, I’ve booked many Hilton property reservations several months in advance, and had a deposit automatically charged to my credit card immediately (as per the appropriate rate rules on the website). If eligible and I haven’t previously received the credit, every single time that deposit has triggered the credit. Many times I’ve subsequently had to cancel the reservation, with full refund of the deposit and never a clawback of the AmEx credit.
