So I've checked in at LHR. I had my 32L backpack on and my 40x30x10cm "small briefcase" hanging from my shoulder. They didn't weigh either, and didn't question the fact I had two items. This is despite the man at the desk being in an extremely grumpy and rude mood even though checkin had just opened.
