Thank you all for replies. It is a bit disappointing there are no real food options in domestic. But it is what it is.

Not this time, I am flying to Fukuoka to spend some time with friends.

I spend up to 6 months in Japan each year now, across multiple trips, next one is one and a half months, later next month. Having visited all the islands, and in fact driven perhaps 5000 miles+ over the years to see the less visited places , I am now more into more secluded places, countryside, nature. I have been learning Japanese for many years now, so looking to practice and it is perfect for that.

I will be flying to Okinawa later for a few weeks because I am taking a friend who has not been there before but after that I will most likely get a rental car and spend a few weeks driving around Shikoku. Japan has great public transport system, but to see the less populated countryside and nature sites, car has proven to be much better. Even if there is public transport , it can be infrequent and not that convenient.
