I agree with this logic. We only use Avios for long haul flights in business, but even then after the surcharges I'm paying as much as I would in WT+.
If I had never received a single avios in my life, I would fly economy, so no, I'm not saving any money with Avios, actually I'm probably spending more.
(Same goes for the upgrade voucher, in my view only worth it to get long haul Club, so you need to start by booing a WT+ ticket, which I wouldn't if it wasn't for the upgrade voucher.)
