Update. I went to my local CostCo to downgrade my membership to the "normal" level... speaking to the friendly staff member, I asked about options for those with the Visa CostCo card and not longer having a membership at all. She mentioned that while the normal procedure is for the credit card account to be closed, that she does know of instances where Citibank can make "alternate" arrangements.... and she strongly suggested I call them to inquire about the possibilities.
I will take her up on this advice and see how it goes.... will come back and report my experiences.
In general, if you have been given a certain credit limit on a bank credit card, and wish to transfer that limit to another card from the same bank while closing its predecessor, almost any bank will permit that.
In essence, you are transferring the bank's credit limit from card A to B.
So, look at the cards you may be interested in at Citi, choose one and give them a call. Tell them you are going to be forced to close your Costo Visa card due to termination of your membership and wish to open a Citicard X and transfer the credit limit to that card when the Costco card is shuttered.
As long as you are a customer in good standing with them, I feel confident that they will be happy to do that for you.
