I arrived at immigration with 2.5 hours before boarding and after getting the card , literally got 5 minutes in the JAL Sakura lounge for a very late breakfast then onto the plane.
Hopefully I was the guinea pig for them and whoever now goes for the secondary interview doesn't take anywhere near as long. Maybe the staff who normally handle TTP were not there, who knows.
Anyone doing the secondary interview soon at Haneda, maybe add some more time if you can spare it. My first TTP was done in Narita years back before Covid and it certainly didnt take anywhere near this long. Maybe 30-40 minutes if I remember right.
I still appreciated the effort of the staff to get the job done.
The fact this is still happening is absolutely ridiculous. It should be very simple: 1. apply online at least 90 days before arrival to give them time for a background check, then 2. on arrival go to an immigration counter marked for TTP, show your passport, global entry (or other qualifying membership), complete arrival procedures and get your card on the spot - then walk over to test it at the e-gate.
It should literally take 10-15 minutes maximum.
